A historic meeting was held at Khamgaon on the second day of the Sevagram Sabarmati Sandesh Yatra organised by important Gandhians organizations against the government plan of  changes the very nature of the world famous Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Yatra proceeded after paying homages to the statues of freedom fighters and social revolutionaries viz. Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi and such symbolic acts during the Sandesh yatra were helpful in intensifying the commitment and morale of the yatris.

The  public meeting was addressed by Kumar Prashant, Chairman of Gandhi Peace Foundation and Sanjoy Singha, Secretary, Gandhi Smarak Nidhi and the convenor of the Yatra.

Kumar Prashant said that we cannot give the government the right to destroy our national heritage. The Sabarmati Ashram was  an eye witness to the historic salt movement that shook the very foundation of British imperialism. It is a place of reverence and inspiration for the country. We will not allow it to become a victim of the whims and fancies of those in power.

Mahatma Gandhi will always remain as a source of inspiration for the world in which we live. He aptly quoted Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. who said”

If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought, and acted, inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony. We may ignore him at our own risk.”.
