बनारस में गंगा का अर्ध चंद्राकार स्वरूप नष्ट होने का ख़तरा

वाराणसी में गंगा के उस पार बालू क्षेत्र गंगा का उन्नतोदर किनारा है।यह किनारा बालू जमाव का स्थायी क्षेत्र है। यह केन्द्रापसारी बल के त्हत उत्पन्न होने वाली घुमाव शक्ति(secondary circulation) होना ही होना है।अतः जो नहर बनाया गया है वह बालू से भर जाएगा।

यह समस्या और बहुत सी समस्याओं को जन्म देगी,क्योंकी इस नहर के साथ गंगा की धारा में बांध (spur)बना है। इस कारण मिट्टी की भयावह जमाव अस्सी से दशास्वमेध घाट तक विशेष रूप से होगी।गंगा घाटों को छोड़ेगी।

स्पर के आगे जो घाट के नीचे कटाव क्षेत्र उत्पन्न हुआ है वह भूजल के तीव्रता से रिसाव का कारण है।इसे समय समय पर भरने की आवश्यकता है।अतः स्पर बनाने की भी आवश्यकता नहीं थी।और नहर तो नहीं हीं बनाना था।

यह स्पर और नहर वाराणसी में वर्तमान में गंगा के चँद्राकार स्वरूप को विनष्ट कर सकता है।

The channel constructed on the sand bed side of the Ganga at Varanasi is unscientific and technically not sustainable.This is on account of the fact that sand bed, existing on the convex bank is facing the secondary circulation produced due to centrifugal forces of the curvature of the Ganga.This causes the transportation of sand on this site.This natural process can not be stopped.The channel ,and the Spur will cause the Ganga to leave the Pucca ghats.

Thus,this project may cause the loss of present shape of the Ganga at Varanasi.
