Tushar Gandhi Calls for ‘Samvidhan Satyagraha Yatra’ to Unite Ideologies of Gandhi and Ambedkar

Nagpur, September . Great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Tushar Gandhi, along with civil society members, has appealed to citizens to join the ‘Samvidhan Satyagraha Yatra’, a march from Dikshabhoomi, Nagpur, to Sevagram Ashram, Wardha, beginning September 29 and culminating on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti.

The march, titled as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu) and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar (Babasaheb), aims to unite their ideologies and reaffirm the values of the Constitution. The organizers said the yatra will highlight issues of farmer distress, weakening of constitutional safeguards, judicial inconsistency, election integrity, environmental destruction, minority rights, Kashmir, Manipur, Assam, Ladakh, as well as global concerns including Gaza and Palestine.

Ahead of the march, a torch rally will be held on September 28, starting from the Gandhi Statue to Samvidhan Chowk in Nagpur, where a public meeting will discuss threats to constitutional democracy, peace, human rights and the environment.

Tushar Gandhi, in a statement, accused the present regime of “hijacking the nation with hate, intolerance, polarization and autocratic rule”, warning that democracy was being replaced by oppression and the Constitution marginalized. He also criticized the Prime Minister for praising the RSS in his Independence Day speech, recalling that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had once described the RSS as a dangerous extremist organisation in the aftermath of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.

This year’s Dussehra falls on October 2, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and the anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism at Nagpur’s Dikshabhoomi. The organizers said the timing is symbolic, as the RSS marks its centenary on the same occasion with government participation, while their march will stand as a counter-celebration to uphold the ideals of Gandhi and Ambedkar.

We appeal to all citizens to join the Samvidhan Satyagraha Yatra and strengthen the voice of freedom, justice, equality, compassion and fraternity — virtues enshrined in our Constitution. Let us march together to defeat the forces of hate and evil this Dussehra,” the appeal stated.

The call was issued under the banner ‘Hum Bharat ke Log’ by Tushar Gandhi, Feroz Mithiborewala, Guddi S. L., Sharad Kadam and Ali Bhojani.
