कौसानी अनासक्ति आश्रम – दूसरा दिन

Since it had rained on Thursday evening, we hoped that the sunrise today would be spectacular and the Himalayas would be clearly visible.
बृहस्पतिवार की शाम बारिश होने से हम सोच रहे थे कि आज सुबह सूर्योदय के दर्शन अच्छे से होंगे और हिमालय भी ठीक से दिखेगा।
So, I set the alarm for 5 a.m., though in Lucknow I usually wake up late around 8 a.m. We went to bed early to ensure we could wake up without difficulty.
इसलिए मैंने अलार्म सुबह 5 बजे का लगा दिया, हालाँकि लखनऊ में तो मैं देर से सुबह आठ बजे उठता हूँ। रात बजे ही सो गये ताकि सुबह उठने में परेशानी न हो।
As soon as the alarm rang at 5, we got up, washed up, made black coffee, put on our shoes and came outside by 5:15. A few other tourists had also gathered in the campus.
पाँच बजे अलार्म बजते ही हम उठ गये। हाथ मुँह धोकर ब्लैक कॉफ़ी बनायी और जूते पहनकर सवा पाँच बजे बाहर आ गये। कुछ और पर्यटक भी कैम्पस में आ गये।
But the Sun was hidden behind clouds, and the sky was filled with reddish hues. Soon, the golden glow of sunlight lit up the horizon, and the Himalayas also started to peek through.
पर सूर्य देवता बादलों से घिरे थे और आसमान में लालिमा छायी थी। कुछ देर में सूर्य की लालिमा से आसमान सुनहरा हो गया। हिमालय की झलक भी दिखने लगी।
Then we set off for a walk into the nearby forest.
इसके बाद हम टहलने के लिए जंगल की तरफ निकल गये।
Next to the Anasakti Ashram used to be a District Board Guest House. Nearly three decades ago, we had stayed there with our sons Amit and Anurag. At that time, over a hundred people would gather to watch the sunrise from the Ashram.
अनासक्ति आश्रम के बगल में पहले डिस्ट्रिक्ट बोर्ड का डाक बंगला होता था। अब से करीब तीन दशक पहले हम दोनों बेटों अमित और अनुराग के साथ इसी डाक बंगले में रुके थे और उस समय सौ से ज्यादा लोग अनासक्ति आश्रम से उगता हुआ सूरज देखने आते थे।
This year, fewer tourists have come due to the recent war with Pakistan. Several people canceled their tickets. Even the youth camp and the meeting of Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, which manages the Ashram, have been canceled.
इस साल अभी पर्यटक अभी कम आये हैं। पाकिस्तान से युद्ध शुरू हो जाने के कारण बहुत से लोगों ने अपने टिकट कैंसिल करा दिये हैं। अनासक्ति आश्रम में भी एक युवा शिविर और आश्रम को मैनेज करने वाली संस्था गॉंधी स्मारक निधि की बैठक भी इसी कारण कैंसिल हो गयी है।
The District Council guest house has now been leased to a private company and turned into a hotel. Many more hotels and guest houses have come up in the upper forest area, each with platforms built to view the sunrise.
जिला परिषद डाक बंगला अब सरकार ने किसी प्राइवेट कंपनी को लीज़ पर दे दिया है और अब वह होटल हो गया है। ऊपर जंगल की तरफ और भी कई होटल और गेस्ट हाउस बन गये हैं और सब जगह सूर्योदय दर्शन के लिए मंच बने हैं।
Thankfully, Kausani has not yet become a concrete jungle like Bhowali, Ramgarh, or Mukteshwar, mainly because it is about 140 km away from the Kathgodam railway station and takes almost six hours to reach.
फिर भी अभी कौसानी में अभी भुवाली, रामगढ़, मुक्तेश्वर आदि की तरह कंक्रीट का जंगल नहीं उगा, चूँकि यह जगह रेलवे स्टेशन काठगोदाम से करीब एक सौ चालीस किलोमीटर दूर है और यहाँ पहुँचने में करीब छह घंटे तो लग ही जाते हैं।
We walked amidst the pine and oak trees for half an hour, reminiscing about many moments of life. After living together for fifty years, there are plenty of sweet and sour memories.
हम लोग चीड़ और देवदार वृक्षों के बीच आधा घंटा विचरण करते रहे, जिसमें जीवन की बहुत सी बातें याद कीं। अब लोगों को साथ रहते पचास साल हो गये हैं तो बहुत से खट्टे मीठे अनुभव हैं।
On social media, I had seen a picture of my close friend Dinesh Garg worshipping Radha-Krishna in Vrindavan, so I called him. He said the crowd there is difficult to manage even for the police.
सोशल मीडिया पर घनिष्ठ मित्र दिनेश गर्ग का वृंदावन में राधे कृष्ण का दर्शन करते फोटो देखा था तो फ़ोन मिलाकर उनसे बात की। वह बता रहे थे कि वहाँ भक्त लोग बहुत हैं और पुलिस को मैनेज करने में कठिनाई होती है।
I told him that soon the Vrindavan Corridor, like those in Kashi and Ayodhya, will begin and make things easier for Krishna devotees.
मैंने उन्हें बताया कि जल्दी ही वृंदावन कोरिडोर का काम शुरू होने वाला है काशी और अयोध्या की तरह तब कृष्ण भक्तों को सुविधा हो जायेगी।
After a short walk, we returned to the Ashram and had poori-bhaji for breakfast.
थोड़ी देर घूमकर हम वापस आश्रम आ गये और यहीं पूड़ी भाजी का नाश्ता किया।
Artificial Intelligence Expert Srikanth
आर्टिफ़िशियल इंटेलिजेंस एक्सपर्ट श्रीकांत
I spent much of the day with Srikanth AI Sapara ji from Hyderabad, a software engineer originally from Visakhapatnam. He has traveled to 18 countries and, after working with giants like Microsoft, now runs his own startup.
दिन का काफ़ी समय हैदराबाद से आये श्रीकांत सपारा जी के साथ बिताया जो एक सॉफ़्टवेयर इंजीनियर हैं। वह मूलत: विशाखापत्तनम के रहने वाले हैं। अठारह देश घूम चुके हैं। माइक्रोसॉफ़्ट जैसी बड़ी कंपनियों में काम करने के बाद अब अपना स्टार्टअप शुरू किया है।
Srikanth is a master of Artificial Intelligence and holds several patents. He teaches machines about the Upanishads and the Gita so that they may answer our queries wisely.
श्रीकांत आर्टिफ़िशियल इंटेलिजेंस के मास्टर हैं। कई पेटेंट उनके पास हैं। वह कम्प्यूटर मशीन को उपनिषदों और भगवत गीता के बारे में इस तरह पढ़ा रहे हैं जिससे वह हमारी समस्याओं के उत्तर दे सकें।
Psychologists believe that Arjuna was in depression before the Mahabharata war, and Lord Krishna taught him the philosophy of Karma Yoga and equanimity – what Gandhi later called “Anasakti Yoga.”
मनोवैज्ञानिक मानते हैं कि अर्जुन महाभारत युद्ध के पहले डिप्रेशन का शिकार हो गये थे और उन्हें सहज स्थिति में लाने के लिए भगवान कृष्ण या अर्जुन के सारथी सखा ने उन्हें कर्म योग और स्थितप्रज्ञ दर्शन सिखाया, जिसे महात्मा गांधी ने इसी अनासक्ति आश्रम में अनासक्ति योग का नाम दिया।
Even modern management gurus now study the Gita to teach equanimity in profit and loss.
इसलिए अब मैनेजमेंट गुरु भी गीता पढ़ और पढ़ा रहे हैं ताकि बिज़नेस में बहुत लाभ या हानि होने पर पगला न जायें।
I myself have gone through depression twice, worrying about who would care for me in old age. But both my sons, Amit and Anurag, came to see with their families for few days , and slowly I returned to normal.
दूसरों की क्या कहें मैं खुद दो बार डिप्रेशन का शिकार हो चुका हूँ, इस चिंता में कि बुढ़ापे में बीमार हुआ तो देखभाल कौन करेगा। लेकिन दोनों बेटे अमित अनुराग सब काम छोड़कर परिवार के साथ कुछ दिनों के मेरे पास आ गये और मैं धीरे – धीरे नार्मल हो गया।
Gandhi, a Realized Yogi
सिद्ध योगी गांधी
Gandhi ji was a realized yogi. Paramahansa Yogananda from US had come to Sevagram Ashram to teach him Kriya Yoga. Yoganand found Gandhi was already an accomplished yogi
गांधी जी एक सिद्ध योगी थे। परमहंस योगानंद अमेरिका से उन्हें सेवाग्राम आश्रम में क्रियायोग सिखाने आये थे।परमहंस ने पाया गांधी तो पहले से ही सिद्धयोगी थे।
One essential yogic principle, like Arjuna’s, is surrendering completely to the Divine. Gandhi always entrusted himself to God, even during long fasts.
दरअसल योग के जो नियम हैं उनमें एक है अर्जुन की तरह ईश्वर के शरणागत हो जाना। गांधी जी हमेशा अपने को ईश्वर को सौंपकर निश्चिंत हो जाते थे, लंबे उपवास में भी।
When Sardar Patel told him about the threats to his life after Partition, Gandhi refused extra security at Birla House.
जब भारत विभाजन के बाद उनके जीवन को ख़तरे की बात गृहमंत्री सरदार पटेल ने बताई थी तब भी उन्होंने बिरला हाउस में प्रवेश में अतिरिक्त सुरक्षा नहीं लगाने दी।
He had even said:
“If someone shoots me, as they tried last week by hurling a bomb, and I receive the bullet on my bare chest without a groan, and die with the name of God on my lips, then only will it be said that I was true to my faith.”
“अगर कोई गोली से मुझे मारना चाहे – जैसी कि पिछले हफ़्ते बम फोड़कर किसी ने कोशिश की थी और मैं उफ़ किये बिना उसकी गोली को खुली छाती पर झेल लूँ तथा ईश्वर का नाम रटते हुए देह छोड़ूँ तभी कहा जायेगा कि मैंने अपना दावा सच्चा साबित कर दिखाया।”
Remember, the deaths of Lord Rama and Krishna were not ordinary either. One took Jal Samadhi in river Saryu and the other was killed accidentally by a hunter. Avataric beings leave earth after fulfilling their mission.
याद कीजिए भगवान राम और कृष्ण की मृत्यु भी सामान्य नहीं थी। एक ने सरयू में जल समाधि ली, दूसरे की मौत बहेलिया के तीर से हुई। अवतारी पुरुष अपना कार्य निर्धारित करके चले जाते हैं।
Gandhi fulfilled his role in his age; now it’s our duty to fulfill ours.
गांधी ने अपने युग में अपना काम किया, अब अपने समय में हमें अपना कर्तव्य निभाना है।
A yogi is also known by his quality of being free of enmity. That’s why Gandhi included even his critic Dr. Ambedkar in Nehru’s cabinet.
योगी का एक और गुण होता है निर्वैर होना, तभी आपके प्रखर आलोचक डा. अम्बेडकर को नेहरू मंत्रिमंडल में मंत्री बनाया।
He even invited Nathuram Godse, who had once attempted to kill him in 1934 / 36 for a meeting because Gandhi believed in change of heart. But Godse, mentored by Savarkar, remained unmoved.
1934?/36 में प्राणघातक हमला करने वाले गोडसे को भी मिलने बुलाया था चूँकि वह परिवर्तन में विश्वास करते थे। मगर गोडसे नहीं सुधरा। उसके मेंटर दामोदर सावरकर थे।
On returning from Srikanth’s tech talk, I tripped over a raised platform and fell. Fortunately, I had my hands out and didn’t get hurt. It was the third fall recently, but each time I was saved – divine grace indeed.
बहरहाल, श्रीकांत से कुछ कम्प्यूटर टिप्स लेकर मैं वापस कमरे की तरफ आ रहा था। चबूतरे की फर्श ऊँची थी, पैर लड़खड़ाकर मैं गिर पड़ा, ग़नीमत है दोनों हाथ फैला लिए थे चोट नहीं आयी। हाल के दिनों में तीसरी बारी गिरा पर गंभीर चोट नहीं आयी। मतलब ईश्वर की कृपा है।
Evening Reflections
संध्या की अनुभूति
There were fewer clouds in the evening, so tourists were happy to get even a glimpse of the Himalayas.
आज शाम को बादल कम थे इसलिए पर्यटक हिमालय की एक झलक पाकर भी प्रसन्न थे।
The all-faith prayer was conducted by Sadanand and Deepak Pandey’s team. After the bhajan, I was again requested to speak.
शाम सात बजे की सर्व धर्म प्रार्थना सदानंद, और दीपक पॉंडेय की टीम ने करायी। भजन के बाद मुझे फिर बोलने का कहा गया।
I shared how Gandhi himself cleaned toilets and fed goats, even gave barrister Motilal Nehru a broom and bucket to clean the campus.
मैंने बताया कि किस तरह गांधी शौचालय की सफाई और बकरी को चारा देने के काम में खुद हाथ बँटाते थे। यहाँ तक कि उस जमाने के बड़े एरिस्टोक्रेट बैरिस्टर मोतीलाल नेहरू को भी उन्होंने बाल्टी और झाड़ू पकड़ा दिया।
So that no worker of the freedom movement or Ashram would feel inferior or superior.
ऐसा इसलिए कि आश्रम या फ़्रीडम मूवमेंट के कार्यकर्ताओं में कोई अपने को छोटा बड़ा न समझे।
I cited the example of his detachment (anasakti) — before the Dandi March, he said he would only return to the Ashram if India attained freedom. He later handed it over to Harijan Sevak Sangh through a trust.
मैंने गांधी जी की अनासक्ति का भी यह उदाहरण दिया कि दांडी मार्च के लिए निकलते समय उन्होंने कहा था आज़ादी मिलेगी तभी आश्रम लौटूँगा। बाद में एक ट्रस्ट बनाकर पूरा आश्रम हरिजन सेवक संघ को सौंप दिया।
This Ashram stands as an inspiration — Gandhi lived so simply, using just one lota of water beside the Sabarmati.
यह आश्रम एक प्रेरणा का केंद्र है कि बापू कितनी सादगी से रहते थे। साबरमती नदी बगल में बहती थी, पर एक लोटे पानी से कुल्ला दातून करते थे मतलब प्रकृति से उतना ही लो जितना जरूरी है।
Now the government is trying to “five-star” Sabarmati Ashram. It has taken over Gujarat Vidyapeeth and placed its own people.
लेकिन साबरमती आश्रम को फ़ाइव स्टार बनाने के लिए छेड़खानी की जा रही है। गांधी जी द्वारा स्थापित गुजरात विद्यापीठ को सरकार ने क़ब्ज़े में लेकर अपने लोग बिठा दिये हैं।
In Banaras, the land of Ashram founded by Vinoba Bhave is being handed over to a favored industrialist to build a seven-star hotel.
बनारस में गंगा किनारे विनोबा जी द्वारा स्थापित साधना केंद्र और प्रकाशन केंद्र के कैम्पस को तोड़कर जमीं सरकार पोषित उद्योगपति को सेवन स्टार होटल बनाने के लिए दी जा रही है।
But will all this destroy Gandhi’s message of Anasakti Yoga and the vision of Swaraj and Sarvodaya?
पर क्या इस सबसे गांधी का अनासक्ति योग दर्शन और स्वराज तथा सर्वोदय की अवधारणा विश्व से ख़त्म हो जायेगी?
